Rush Edwin Hawks

Mr. Rush Edwin Hawks, 71, of Cana, VA, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011, surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Hawks was born September 15, 1939, in Carroll County, VA, to Feilden and Bessie King Hawks. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a wonderful friend to many. Surviving are his devoted wife, Ruby McMillian Hawks of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bobby Viars of Cana, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Doris Hawks of Cana, VA; two grandchildren, Nicole Hawks and Kaitlan Viars; two sisters, Frankie McMillian and Beulah McMillian, both of Cana, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Carol Hawks of Cana, VA; and a special friend, Gary Riddle. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Adrian LeAnna Viars. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Flat Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Hawks Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
