Russell Landon “Buck” Haynes  June 28, 1937 – December 25, 2024 

Mr. Russell Landon Haynes, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at his home. He was born in Surry Co. on June 28, 1937, the son of the late Frank Pierce and Foye Barker Haynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Todd Haynes, two sisters, Margaret Haynes Ramey, Fannie Lou Haynes Lyons, and five brothers, Rev. Claude Haynes, Banner Haynes, Wayne Haynes, Bill Haynes, and Franklin B. Haynes. He is survived and was blessed by his wife of 60 years, Alma Upchurch Haynes, two sons, Marty Haynes (Karen) and Chad Haynes; five grandchildren, Beth Jones (Zach), Katherine Jensen (Evan), Corrie Johnson (Will), Sophia Haynes, and Reese Haynes, and three great-grandchildren, Emery Jensen, Eleanor Jones and Ellis Jensen. He is also survived by two sisters, Gladys Haynes Hopkins (Norman) and Betty Haynes Cave. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2024, at Antioch Baptist Church in Mt. Airy. Interment will follow in Round Peak Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with full Masonic rights conducted by Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF & AM. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Russell loved his family very much, supporting and empowering them. He was proud to have retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Bluegrass music and those he encountered at various music events touched his soul. He also loved his mountain heritage as it served to energize him each time he made his way home. He loved Jesus Christ, accepting him as Lord and Savior early in his adult life. He valued his friends, but also never hesitated to help neighbors and strangers alike.
