Mr. Russell Allen Poore, age 80 of Fancy Gap, VA passed away December 3, 2006 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Mr. Poore was born in Surry County, May 22, 1926 to the late Joseph Benjamin and Leota Lineback Poore. Mr. Poore served in the US Army during World War II and during this time, he received two Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and an Occupation Medal of Germany. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Airy. Mr. Poore is survived by his wife, Wanda Weddle Poore of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Jerry Cox of Charlotte, NC, Janice and Bobby Stokes of Mocksville, NC, Shannon and Mike Brown of Woodlawn, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Glenda Poore of Fishersville, VA; five grandchildren, Jordan Cox, Ashtan Cox, Catherine Taylor, Caleb Taylor, Brandon Stokes. In addition to his parents Mr. Poore was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Creel and a brother, Donald Poore. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Airy by Dr. Roger Gilbert and Rev. Wendell Horton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 714 Main St, Mt.
