Mr. Russell McKinley York, Sr., 75, of 1345 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2006, at his home. Mr. York was born June 25, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Linnie McKinley and Jettie Mae Robertson York. He was part owner of York Oil Company until his retirement in 1981, a charter member of the White Plains Ruritan Club, and a member of the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. York was also a member of White Plains Friends Meeting, a Scout Master Troop #553, and was a well-known woodcraftsman. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Moore York of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Dale White of Dobson; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell McKinley "Rusty" York, Jr. and Tobi York of Mount Airy; five grandchildren and spouses, Crystal and Jimmy Branch of Elkin, Tina and Jason Whitaker of White Plains, Sheena White of Dobson and friend, James Jestes, of Boone, and McKinley York and Hunter York, both of Mount Airy; a great granddaughter, Karson Branch of Elkin; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Marian York and Jack and Madge York, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. York was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah York Lane; and a brother, Bob Lee York. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 3, 2006, at White Plains Friends Meeting. The service will be conducted by Pastor Wayne Johnson and Pastor Lloyd Pugh, and entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to White Plains Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 3, White Plains, NC 27031. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and his caregivers, Bridgett Pike, Candi Lawson, and Stephanie Allen. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the York family.
