Ms. Ruth "Hook" Marion Dezern, 77, of Dobson, passed away at her home on Tuesday November 18, 2008 after multiple battles with cancer. She was born in Surry County on October 9, 1931 to the late William Brady and Minnie Nichols Marion. Mrs. Dezern was retired from Tultex Industries and was a dedicated member of Salem Baptist Church. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends and her fellow "sisters" of the Dobson Red Hatters Society. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Elaine Marion of Dobson; a special niece Marian and husband Edward Snyder of Rural Hall; a special nephew Fred Taylor and several other nieces and nephews; a special lifetime neighbor and friend, Barbara Steele and her loving canine companion, "Kami". In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dezern was preceded in death by two sisters Eunice Taylor and Bernice Hamlin. A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday at Salem Baptist Church cemetery by Rev. Bobby Lewis and Rev. Mitchell Robertson. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at Salem Baptist Church with a funeral service to celebrate her life beginning at 7:00 PM. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home of her brother, Bill Marion 147 Lake Elva Lane Dobson.Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Dezern family.
