After living a wonderful life and being a loving wife and mother, Ruth Etta Norman Edwards, age 80 went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 11, 2007. She was born August 14, 1927 in Surry County to the late William Percy Norman and Maggie Jane Hall Norman. She was a retired employee of J.C. Penney in Mt. Airy. Her family was the love of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Fred Edwards, Sr. and a granddaughter, Jodi Christina Gobble. She is survived by a daughter, Regina (Gina) Edwards Gobble Martin and husband Ralph of Mt. Airy; a son, Raymond (Freddy) Fred Edwards and wife Glenda of Mt. Airy; one grandson, Brian C. Gobble, of Mt. Airy; four granddaughters, Stephanie Gobble of Kernersville, Courtney Edwards Haughwout and husband Eric of Hickory, Tamera Edwards of Winston Salem and Sarah Jane Gobble of Mt. Airy. One great grandchild, Elizabeth Gobble of Yadkinville and a host of other relatives and friends. A special thanks to all the staff at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem for making our mothers last days peaceful and comfortable. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Byrd and Dr. James Joseph officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy where her body will remain until taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
