Ruth Rakes Francis

Mrs. Ruth Rakes Francis, 82, of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy.  She was born in Surry on February 25, 1937 to the late Larkin Edwards and Beatrice Deplama Rakes.  Mrs. Francis was a loving homemaker, and healthcare provider who will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends.  She is survived by a sister and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Billy Allen, and James Smith; sisters-in-law, Virginia Rakes, and Dottie Rakes; a dear friend, Rachel Puckett; a special nephew, Joe Hudson; many other nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Francis was preceded in death by her husband, Wade C. Francis; a daughter, Deborah Sue Francis; a son, Billy Ray Francis; sisters, Lucille Hudson, Betty Jean Smith, and Sandra Lineberry; brothers, Wayne Rakes, Douglas Rakes, Sunny Rakes, and Warren Rakes.  A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
