Miss Ruth Elnora Long, age 86 of Hickory, NC passed away on Monday afternoon August 14, 2006 at the Brian Center East in Hickory, NC. Miss Long was born in Surry County on March 10, 1920 to the late John Alexander Long and the late Esther Haymore Long, in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister Winfred Long, Macadoo Long, Nell Jones, and Joe B. Long. She was a member of Salem Fork Christian Church, She attended Appalachian State Teachers College, and retired from the Greensboro News and Record. Surviving are three sisters and brothers-in-law Delia and Tom Lanners of Morganton, NC, June and Charles Trivette of Hickory, NC, Madeleine Long of Charlotte, NC; one brother Edward (Ral) Long of Elkin, NC; two sisters-in-law Rachel Long of Dobson, NC, Gertrude Long of Mt. Airy, NC; one brother-in-law Carlton Jones of Greensboro, NC; Several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday August 17, 2006 at Salem Fork Christian Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Joshua Goocey and Rev. David Long will officiate the service. Her body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home until carried to the church to lie in state 30 Min. before the service. The Family will receive friends at the church after the service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Salem Fork Christian Church C/O Rodney Clement, 306 Forest Oaks Dr., Dobson, NC 27017 or to the Hospice of your choice.
