Ruth Evelyn Hicks Mack

Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Hicks Mack, 95, of Columbus, OH, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016. Mrs. Mack was born February 1, 1921, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late John Pete and Elma Jane Sutphin Hicks. Ruth proudly served our country in the Women’s Army Air Corps during World War II. She was a loving housewife and a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Katherine Neal Hicks and Gaye East Hicks, both of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mack was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Mack; and five brothers, Jack Morgan Hicks, Billy Hicks, Walter Hicks, Ralph Hicks, and Bobby Lee Hicks. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Stewart R. Mauck officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
