Ms. Ruth Etta Shelton Mills, 70, of 155 McGee Street, Mount Airy, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday afternoon, August 24, 2008, at her home surrounded by her family. She was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and going to her beach house. Ms. Mills was born December 25, 1937, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Ramey and Clennie Rakes Shelton. Ms. Mills was retired from Spencer's Inc. after 35 years where she was plant manager of the Highway 52 plant. Ms. Mills was a longtime member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church where she was active with the WMU and the welfare ministry. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Kay M. and Rick Snow of Dobson; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Susan M. Mills of Walnut Cove; two granddaughters, Angie S. Johnson and her husband, Kris, of Dobson, and Adrienne Snow of Clemmons; two great-grandchildren, Haley Johnson and Lucas Johnson both of Dobson; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie and Ed Belton, Betty and Mickey Hall, Jean and Harvey Arrington, and Parabelle S. Hiatt, all of Mount Airy, and Dorothy and Donald Baynes of Danville, VA; and six brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Betty Jo Shelton, Don and Bonnie Shelton, and Paul and Ethylene Shelton, all of Mount Airy, Wade and Mary Shelton of Taylors, SC, Buddy and Donna Shelton of Gresham, OR, and Charles and Mac Shelton of Anchorage, AK, and special neighbors, Danny and Linda Hooker of Mount Airy, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Ms. Mills was preceded in death by two grandsons, William Jackson Mills and James Nathan Mills, One sister, Frances Faye Shelton, and one brother, Russell Shelton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 27, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Haymore Memorial Baptist Church with the service conducted by Rev. Robert McCrary with interment to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. Ms. Mills will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service at the church. The Mills family will receive friends at the Moody Funeral Home on Tuesday night from 6 PM until 8PM.
