Ruth Lawrence Sawyers

Mrs. Ruth Lawrence "Nannie Ruth" Sawyers, 86, of 1776 Park Drive, Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, while surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Sawyers was born in Surry County on September 14, 1919, to the late Willis Fulton and Sarah Etta Smith Lawrence. She was a homemaker and a former secretary from Franklin Elementary School. She was a faithful member of Rockford Street United Methodist Church for many years. A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, she leaves behind to cherish her memory two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Robert Corn and Margaret and Philip Clement, all of Mount Airy; four grandchildren and spouses, Dean and Janene Clement, Doug Clement, Darren and Wendy Corn, all of Mount Airy, and Dana and Jim Burchel of Thomasville; nine great grandchildren, Jenna Clement, Ashley Clement, John Clement, Tyler Clement, Abbi Lord, Jacob Lord, Ashley Burchel, Amber Corn, and Mason Corn; aloving sister and brother-in-law, Virginia L. and Rev.Fred Fleming of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jamie Roberson and Betty Simmons. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sawyers was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Curtis Romey Sawyers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2006, at Rockford Street United Methodist Church with Rev. William Randolph, Rev. Homer Lowdermilk, and Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
