Ruth Jackson Smith

Mrs. Ruth Jackson Smith, age 97, of Westfield, NC, passed away at Central Continuing Care on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

She was born on Feb. 9th, 1925, in Surry County to the late Eldridge Fernando Jackson and Maggie Hunter Jackson. Mrs. Smith graduated from Westfield High School. Ruth was devoted to her family and friends and known as an accomplished seamstress and talented gardener.

Ruth was preceded in death by husband Robert Wayne Smith, brother Vester Franklin Jackson, daughter-in-law Sue Monday Smith, and son-in-law William Quinn “Bill” Goodman.

She is survived by her three children Richard J. Smith, Sr., EdD, Cynthia Smith Key and husband Samuel Harding, Robin Smith Goodman; her grandchildren Lori Michelle Key and husband Mike Deal, Richard Jackson Smith, Jr. and wife Mary Julia, Hollie Key Nelson, Christopher Wayne Goodman and partner Rose Hernandez, and Samuel Ryan Key, MD; great-grandchildren Richard Jackson Smith III, Lilly Claire Ripperton, and Noah James Ripperton; and special nephew Joseph Jackson, MD, and special friend Donn Key.

A private graveside service with burial in the Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Dale Riddle and arranged by Moody’s Funeral Home.
