Sadie Wolfe Byerly

Sadie Wolfe Byerly, 96, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 27, 2018 at her Sharon Towers home with her two beloved daughters by her side. Sweet, gracious, delightful Sadie was born June 28, 1921, in Mount Airy, NC, the daughter of the late William Samuel Wolfe and Susan Ashby Wolfe. She excelled and graduated with honors from Mount Airy High School and from her beloved GC (Greensboro College) in Greensboro, NC. She served as Student Body President while there and continued to serve the college throughout her life as an active alumni, board member and so much more. Sadie married her childhood sweetheart, Guy Lee Byerly, Jr. on November 2, 1943 and moved with him to Charlotte in 1948 as he began his 50 year career with Belk Store Services. She was the love of his life and his strong, everlasting rock of support throughout their almost 68 years of marriage. She served the Charlotte community tirelessly and joyously in countless way including serving as President of the Charity League in Charlotte, as a long time Red Cross Volunteer and as a charter founding member of Providence United Methodist Church. She loved her family more than life itself and they love her so very deeply. Anyone and everyone who was blessed to cross Sadie’s path was touched by her grace, her faith, her kindness and her happy spirit. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Morris Adams and her husband, James Edward Adams of Charlotte, Nancy Byerly Jones and her husband, Robert J. Jones, Jr., of Banner Elk; five grandsons, Robert J. Jones, III and his wife, Tina Carter Jones of Boone, Michael E. Jones and wife Alanna Stokes Jones of Charlotte, William Scott Jones and his wife Sondra Smolek Jones of Carrboro, NC, Adam Shepherd Morris and his fiancé, Lauren Taylor of Rochester, NY, and Blake William Morris and his wife, Lora Freeman Morris of Charlotte; and nine great-grandchildren, Molly Addison Jones, Robert J. Jones, IV, Hudson Byerly Jones, Andrew Woodruff Jones, Lucy Summerlin Jones, Samuel Edward Jones, Coy Melvin Morris, Mallory Mae Morris and Blake Mills Carter. In addition to her parents, Sadie was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Lee Byerly, Jr., two sons, an infant in 1945 and Guy Lee Byerly, III in 1960 and son-in-law, Melvin S. Morris. A visitation will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, followed at 11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Memorial service with the Reverend Dr. Dave Melton and the Reverend Dr. Bill Jeffries officiating. A service of committal will also be held Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. Honorary pallbearers will be Sadie’s five grandsons and her nine great-grandchildren.
