Sallie Barbara Bowman

Miss Sallie Barbara Bowman, 73, of 1808 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Mount Airy. Miss Bowman was born June 9, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Neal Garnett and Lennice Lois Lovill Bowman. She was a retired telephone operator from Centel Telephone, where she was employed for 37 years. Surviving are three sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances McElfresh of Brookville, KY, and Peggy and Dean Bobbitt and Patricia Phillips, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, James E. "Tony" and Elizabeth Bowman of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Bowman was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Bowman. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 17, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Major Mike Rodgers officiating. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
