Sally Ann Atkins Holder

Mrs. Sally Ann Atkins Holder, 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Holder was born June 17, 1944, in Surry County, one of twelve children born to the late Coy and Mary McHone Atkins. Sally worked at Pine State Knitwear for many years and later retired from The Drapery House. She was a dedicated volunteer at Northern Hospital of Surry County and a faithful member of Community Baptist Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Tammy Simpson of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Robyn and Dr. Steve Atkins of Punta Gorda, FL; a stepson and his wife, Ricky and Sharon Holder of Sutherlin, OR; a grandson and his wife, T.C. and Erin Simpson of Ararat; two stepgrandchildren, T.J. Holder and Josh Holder, both of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Emery Simpson of Ararat; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Eddie Ray Draughn of Mount Airy; a brother, Bud Atkins of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Arnold “Bobby” Holder, Jr.; three sisters, Marie Brintle, Alma Robertson, and Mary Ruth McGee; and six brothers, Coy Atkins, Jr., Nick Atkins, Ernest Atkins, Max Atkins, Curtis Atkins, and Fox Atkins. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Jessup and the Rev. Butch Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. The family is also very grateful for the love, prayers, and support from all their family and friends.
