Sammie Linwood Cassell, Sr.

Mr. Sammie Linwood Cassell, Sr. age 75 of Bassett, Virginia passed at SOVAH Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. He was born on October 21, 1949, to the late Robert James Cassell and Nannie Mae Craig Cassell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Ava Ann McAdams; three grandchildren, Robbie Lee Jones, Anna Marie Jones, and Alissa Belcher; and six siblings, Bill Cassell, Curtis Cassell, Carl Cassell, Larry Cassell, James Cassell, and Debbie Shorter. Sammie was a simple man he enjoyed lawnmowers, old cars, and his pets and he dearly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Left to cherish the memory of Sammie are his devoted wife of 35 years, Victoria Lurenda Lawless Cassell of the home; four children, Sammie Cassell, Jr (Diana) of Stokesdale, NC, Lurenda Loraine Williams (John Wayne) of Fieldale, VA, Michelyn Marie Cassady of Bassett, VA, and Kelly Junior Cassell, also of Bassett; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five siblings, Chester Cassell (Kaye), Lonnie Cassell (Linda), Dorothy Clifton, all of Bassett, VA, Judy Holloway of Rocky Mount, VA, and Linda Thomas (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held for Mr. Cassell on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at County Line Church of God of Prophecy with Pastor Jason Callahan officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to County Line Church of God of Prophecy, 2900 County Line Road, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.
