Samuel Baird Bowman

Mr. Samuel Baird Bowman, 76, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  He was born in Surry County on April 6, 1946, to the late Charlie Lee and Virgie Snow Bowman.  Mr. Bowman retired from Slate Motor/Heavy Equipment after 35 years of employment. Mr. Bowman proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1973 in the Americal Division, 23^rd Infantry Vietnam, and was awarded a Silver Star Medal and 3 Commendations.  He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Rita Cockerham Bowman; daughters, Heather Bowman Perino, Amanda Faye Bowman; a son, Kevin Charles Bowman and fiancée Melanie Lawson; grandchildren, Roman Thomas Perino, Kyndall Richardson, Alex Richardson, and Cameron Sees; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lydia and Earl Shelton, Bessie and Eric Comer; a brother, Foley Ted Bowman; sisters-in-law, Bisse’ Magnusson Bowman, Linda Bowman Snow, Cindy Hill Bowman; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-law, Benny and Gisela Leard, David Lee Bowman, Byron Bowman, Tommy Bowman; sister and brother-in-law, Caroleen and Charles Ledford.  A graveside service will be held Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Arlis Thomas officiating, and military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 until 10:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
