Mr. Samuel Moore Lawson, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Lawson was born July 16, 1917, in Stokes County, to the late Joshua and Emma Owens Lawson. He was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Airy and retired from Mount Airy Furniture Company. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including four special nieces who were his caretakers for the past four years, Andrea Mosley Johnson (Bernie) of Mount Airy, Jeanette Lawson Jackson (Jim) and Patti Lawson Payne (Charlie) of Winston-Salem, and Barbara Lawson Wright of Francisco. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Lawson Mosley; four brothers Jesse Lawson, Ed Lawson, Carroll Lawson, and Jack Lawson; four half-sisters, Susan Lawson, Lelia Owens, Nan Mabe, and Hattie Manring; and three half-brothers, John M. Lawson, Bryant Lawson, and Oscar Lawson. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 13, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by Dr. Victor S. Lyons, and burial will follow in the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Francisco community. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the excellent care provided by the caregivers at Central Continuing Care, Twelve Oaks Alzheimer Unit, and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
