Sanders Alton "Pop" Smith

Mr. Sanders Alton “Pop” Smith. Age 81, of Ararat, Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born on September 14, 1943 in Patrick County to the late George P. and Maggie Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired bank manager and was a member of Mt. Airy Elks for 45 years, where he served as treasurer . He also proudly served our country in the United States Airforce. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Fern Johnson Smith; brother, Larry Smith (Betty); special nephew, Brad Smith as well as several other nieces nephews, and a host of in-law’s. In addition to his parents Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Alexander Smith. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Rev. Dean Hart and Rev. Buford Jessup. Burial will follow in Unity Church Cemetery in Ararat, Virgina with Military Honors conducted by Post #2019 of Mt. Airy and Post #9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 PM until the time for the service at the funeral home.
