Sandra Gaye Newman

Ms. Sandra Gaye Newman, 70, of Mount Airy, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, January 15, 2024, at Northern Regional Hospital.  Ms. Newman was born June 21, 1953, in Surry County, one of four children born to the late Charles Clifford and Virginia “Genny” Ashburn Newman.  Sandra grew up in the Red Brush community and graduated from North Surry High School in 1973.  She worked at Renfro Corporation for many years and was a member of Blues Grove Baptist Church.  Sandra was a very loving person, especially to her family.  Her kindness and tender heart equipped her to care for others, no matter the circumstance or situation, and animals, as she rescued many.  She was a devout Christian throughout her life, always leading by example for her family and community.  The world is a much better place for all she has done.  She is survived by two sons, Jamie Simons and Chris Simons; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Judy and Delmer McCraw and Rhonda Collins; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Newman was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ray Newman; and a brother-in-law, David Lee Collins.  No formal visitation or service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, Memorial Bible Program, P.O. Box 1032, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
