Mrs. Sandra Merritt Rogers, age 51 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at her home. She was born in Patrick County on September 25, 1954. She received her Master's Degree of Education from Radford University, was a teacher at Stuart Elementary School for over 15 years, and was principal at Woolwine Elementary School for 9 years. She was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church where she was active in many children's programs. She also was a past president and member of Beta Rho Chapter and a member of Stuart Rotary Club where she and her husband were the first married couple to hold membership in the club's more than 50 year history. She was known to thousands of listeners to her husband's WHEO radio show as "My Sweetie". Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband, Richard T. Rogers of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Jackie Denny of Mount Airy, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Andrew and Madison Taylor Denny; her mother, Marie Venable Merritt of Lawsonville, North Carolina; and three brothers, Bill and Ben Merritt, both of Lawsonville and Dale Merritt of Stuart. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Merritt. Funeral services for Mrs. Rogers will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Peters Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church sanctuary.
