Sarah Colleen Hiatt

Mrs. Sarah Colleen Hiatt, 88, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy. She was born in Carroll County, VA, August 24, 1933, to the late Jack and Myrtle Mae Edwards Hawks. Mrs. Hiatt was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She cared for her family and relished the time she had with them. She is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law, Brandy and Tim Dowdy, Donna Brown, and Deborah Bridges; sons and a daughter-in-law, Tommy Sumner, Michael and Janice Sumner, and George Sumner, Jr.; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie Hawks, Bobby and Judy Hawks, and Dennis “Otto” and Carleen Hawks. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Sumner; grandson, Aaron Dowdy; granddaughter, Kayla Norman; sisters Maggie Jones and Connie Galyean; and brothers, Landon Edwards, Sterlin Edwards, Ray Hawks, and George “Joe” Hawks. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 28, 2022, at Midkiff Cemetery with the Rev. James Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, Friday, from 9:30 AM until the time to leave for the service.
