Sarah Mae Whittington Shelton

Mrs. Sarah Mae Whittington Shelton, age 84, of Lowgap, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021, at her residence. She was born May 15, 1937, in Surry County to the late John William Whittington and the late Priscilla Ella Watson Whittington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Gray Shelton, Sr.; her sons, Donald Gray Shelton II and John Lemuel Shelton; her sister, Peggy Lou Whittington; and her brother, William Douglas Whittington. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Henry Thompson, Sue and Kenny Owens, Lynn and Roger Sawyers, and Hope and Josh Pope; and her son, Joel Shelton. Mrs. Shelton has twenty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, John Allen Whittington. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson. Services will begin at 1:00 PM in the Moody-Davis Chapel with Reverend Chris Oakley officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy NC 27030.
