SGM Ret. Jimmy Carl Stamey

SGM Ret. Jimmy Carl Stamey age 75 of Stuart, Virginia passed away peacefully at his home, after a lengthy illness on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was born in North Carolina on February 15, 1941 to the late Mary A. Honeycutt and James R. Stamey. He began his military service in 1958, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. He retired in 1988 after having serving 30 years in the United States Army, including 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and many happy years stationed overseas in Europe. After retirement Jimmy built his dream home in the beautiful rolling countryside just outside of Stuart; where he enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, including hunting and gardening. Jimmy truly enjoyed animals and treasured his family pets. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and friend.

SGM Stamey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy Dean Gilliam Stamey of the home; two sons, Jimmy Carl Stamey and Archer Lewis of Richmond, VA and Shane Helms and wife, Katie of Patrick Springs, VA; four daughters, Pam Reeves and Ralph London of Newton, NC, Sharon Voigt and husband, Wesley of Denver, NC, Julia Dancy and husband, Bill of Smithfield, VA, and Lisa Campbell and Charlie Vik of Chesapeake, VA. eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held for SGM Stamey on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Patrick Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ed Hartman officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, VA.
