Mrs. Sharron R. Atkins, 72, of Dobson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  She was born May 28, 1947, in Elkin, to Susie Hemric Royall and the late John Tyre Royall, Sr.  Sharron was a special education teacher for thirty years, serving children and adults with special needs at Dobson Elementary School, Yadkin County Adult Developmental Activity Program (ADAP), Espom Elementary School (Franklin County), C.G. Credle Elementary School (Granville County), and Davie County High School.  Additionally, she joined her late husband, the Rev. Lanny R. Atkins, in answering God’s call to ministry at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church in Oxford, Advance First Baptist Church in Advance, Holly Springs Baptist Church in Mount Airy, Ronda First Baptist Church in Ronda, and Rockford Baptist Church in Dobson.  Sharron was also active in the work of Surry Baptist Association and Women on Mission.  She is survived by her mother; her brother, John Tyre “J.T.” Royall, Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law, Sandra Atkins of Dobson; a son, Andy Atkins and his wife, Tracy, of Dobson; a daughter, Annessa Beaman and her husband, David, of New Bern; and six grandchildren, Samantha Atkins, Lydia Atkins, Daniel Atkins, Abigail Beaman, Joshua Beaman, and Tabitha Beaman.  In addition to her husband and father, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, James Houston “Jay” Atkins.  The family invites friends, colleagues, church members, and former students to join them for a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Rockford Baptist Church.  Dr. Jim Pollard and the Rev. Dale Wallace will lead the service.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 1:45 PM.  The burial will be private.  The family wishes to express appreciation to the physicians of Salem Chest Specialists and the nurses and respiratory therapists in the Intensive Care Unit at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center for their compassionate professionalism.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Rockford Baptist Church, 4947 Rockford Road, Dobson, NC  27017 (ATTN: Missy Huffman).  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
