Mrs. Shelba Jean Hill Carpenter, 72, of 1516 West Fairfield Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born October 31, 1939, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Zeb and Ola Blanch Huie Hill. Mrs. Carpenter retired from Medical Associates of Surry and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Carpenter of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jimmy Cooke of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Karen Carpenter of Pilot Mountain; two grandchildren, Tori Cooke Scritchfield and her husband, Anthony, of Dobson, and Jordan Cooke of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Seth Scritchfield of Dobson and Aiden Hopkins of Mount Airy; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth and Joe Bill Jessup of Pilot Mountain and Dot Strayhorn of Mount Airy; and two brothers and three sisters-in-law, the Rev. J. Cecil and Rachel Hill, Ray and Violet Hill, and Mildred Hill, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Hill. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rodger Easter and the Rev. Mickey Cogdill officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
