Shelby Jean Dalton

Shelby Jean Mankins Dalton, 80, of Stuart, passed away peacefully at home Friday, June 14, 2019. She was born in Patrick County November 8, 1938 to the late William Lester Mankins and Nellie Hill Mankins. 

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Charles Edward Dalton of the home, son Laine Dalton and wife Patti of Stuart, grandsons Tyler and Cayden Dalton, brother William Larry Mankins and wife Linda of Meadows of Dan, brothers- and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

Shelby was a member of Stella Christian Church and was a very involved and loving mother and grandmother who was always present at sports and school activities. She worked at Rubber Thread and Spring Florist and volunteered in the community throughout her life, as a Den Mother, long-time "Pink Lady" at RJ Reynolds Memorial Hospital, and most recently as a volunteer at W.H.E.O. She was a special friend to many, served as Queen Mother in the Red Hat Society and was among the charter class of the Reynolds Homestead’s College for Older Adults, always striving to better herself and her community. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18th at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Steve Hayes and Robert Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at State Line Primitive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday evening, June 17th, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home.
