Mrs. Shelby Dean Golding Hodges, 85 of Lowgap, North Carolina, went home to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hodges was born in Surry County, on April 13, 1936, to the late, Hobert Woltz and Zora Marie Hawks Golding. Shelby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a faithful member of Dayspring Baptist Chapel. She enjoyed cooking for her family and her life on the farm. Shelby will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 66 years, Billy “Bill” Ray Hodges; one daughter, Gail Hodges; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny Ray Hodges and wife Karen; two grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda Bare and husband Jason, Will Hodges and wife, Casey; two grand dogs, Mattie and Prince; three great-grandchildren, Breelyn Bare, Jaylon Bare, and Tyler Hodges; one sister and brother-in-law, Marie Golding Vernon and husband Alford; two brothers and sister-in-law, H.W. Golding and wife Evelyn, Ruben Golding; sisters-in-law, Glenda Taylor, Faye Comer, and Mary Snow and husband Gary; along with several nieces and nephews; special care givers, Carlene Daniels and Edna Grimsley. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hodges was preceded in the death by her stepfather, Gaston Golding, one sister, Lou Branscome. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care’s staff and her special nurses, Janene Moss, Melissa Grimsley and Crystal Hardin. Along with her physician, Jennifer Marion, for all her help through Shelby’s illness. No formal services will be held at this time.
