Shelby Council Hunter

Mrs. Shelby Ayers Council Hunter, age 86, of Mt. Airy formerly of Robersonville, NC, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  She was born in Martin County on July 14, 1936, to the late Jesse and Neva Bowen Ayers James. Mrs. Hunter was retired from Southeastern Tobacco Company after 24 years of service. Mrs. Hunter also retired from Gardner, Gardner & Campbell after 21 years of service.  Left to cherish her memory are a son Wayne Council; stepdaughter, Dedee Hartman (Buddy);grandchildren, James Council, Ashley Council, Corey Council, Courtney Davis; great-grandchild Hayley DesLauriers; sister, Janie Boyer; brother-in-law, Max Hunter; sister-in-law, Sarah James; daughter-in-law, Bridgette Council as well as numerous nieces. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her first husband, Dalton W. Council; second husband; Samuel Wesley Hunter; son, Troy Council; sisters, Joyce Williams, Christine Ayers; brother, Carlton A. James.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Bannertown Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Mickey Cogdill.  The family will receive friends from 12pm until time for the service at the church.  The family would like to say a special thanks to Nancy Gordon, Barbara Hiatt, and Arlene Crotts.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bannertown Church 1834 Westfield Rd, Mt Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Dr., Mt.
