Shelby Jean Slate Puckett

Mrs. Shelby Jean Slate Puckett age 63 of 1415 Hatchers Chapel Road, Claudville, VA wife of Mr. Glen Puckett passed away Tuesday night at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born June 23, 1943 in Patrick County to the late Jim and Avor Bowman Slate. She was retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Hatcher's Chapel United Methodist Church where she had served in various capacities. Surviving are her husband, Glen Puckett of the home, two daughters and a son-in-law, Glenna Puckett, Winston-Salem, NC, Darlene and Kenneth Potts, Mt. Airy, NC, two grandchildren, Tommie Potts, Dobson, NC, and Matthew Levi Potts, Mt. Airy, NC, six sisters, Stella Puckett, Hazel Pike, Sue Montgomery, Linda Beasley, Lois Flippin, all of Mt. Airy, NC, and Dorothy Rives, Asheboro, NC, two brothers Homer Slate, Ararat, VA and Jimmy Slate, Mt. Airy, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Puckett was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Stevenson and two brothers, Otis and Ricky Slate. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2007 at Hatcher's Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Harry Sherrill. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8- PM Thursday night at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
