Mrs. Shelby N. Smith, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, February 5, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Smith was born March 11, 1940, in Surry County, the daughter of the late C.G. Nichols and Mary Lou Newgent. Shelby retired from Spencer’s Inc. after 30 years of service. As a young person, she made a profession of Christian faith and was active in the local church, Welcome Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and the Rev. Stewart R. Mauck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lane and Sheila Smith and Terrell and Tammy Smith; her grandchildren, Shane and Emily Mauck, Derick and Brooke Mauck, and Candace and Jonathan Pettus; her great-grandchildren, Kathlyn Mauck, Cooper Mauck, Gabe Mauck, Emersyn Pettus, Aaron Mauck, Liam Mauck, and Jude Mauck; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Taylor. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gray Smith. A service of worship and celebration of Shelby’s life will be held Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Welcome Baptist Church, with Dr. Rick Jackson and the Rev. Stewart R. Mauck officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Welcome Baptist Church, 261 Welcome Baptist Church Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
