Sherman E. Hubbard

Mr. Sherman Edgar Hubbard, age 89 of Stuart, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on February 20, 1932 to the late Charles and Inez Haden Hubbard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carlene H. Pilson and Reva H. Foley. Sherman began his life as a young man by driving log trucks for his dad at his sawmill. He then joined the U.S. Navy and was very proud to have served his country. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life. He began working at United Elastic where he worked his way up to a supervisor position which he held for many years. He became the owner/operator of his own “Country Stores” for several years. In 1986, he was employed by the Patrick County Developmental Center where he transported individuals to and from the center. A job her truly loved with people he loved and continued for 34 until he recently retired. Sherman was steadfast and persistent throughout his life but his main goal became that he would get to see all his family together when we all get to Heaven with our Lord. He was a member of Minnie's Chapel Wesleyan Church.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 64 years, Phyllis Wood Hubbard of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Revonda and Kenneth Anderson of Stuart, Pam Hubbard of Stuart; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah Morris, Amber M. Tankersley (Jeff), Jay Anderson, Amanda A. Hall (Kevin), Breanna Hubbard, Ryan Hubbard (Natalia), Bryce Hubbard; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Earlene H. Handy, Shirley H. Fanning both of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Gary Combs and David Heath officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Alex Cockram Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 730 E.
