Shirley Maynard Moore Bresett

Shirley Maynard Moore Bresett, 89 of Stuart Virginia and former long-time resident of Springfield Vermont died peacefully on March 12, 2012 at Pioneer Hospital.

She was born in Proctor Vermont on January 19th, 1923, the middle daughter of Nina (Norton) and Maynard Cleveland Moore. She grew up in Middlebury Vermont and graduated from Middlebury High School in 1941. In 1944 she completed her studies at Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing. After her graduation she pursued her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Vermont. With the end of World War II and the safe return of the love of her life, she and Russell G. Bresett were married on August 22, 1945 in the Springfield Congregational Church. After a brief time living in New London Connecticut they returned to Springfield Vermont where they resided until the death of her husband in January 2008. At that time she moved to Worcester Vermont where she lived with her loving daughter and son-in-law eventually re-locating to her home in Stuart Virginia in August of 2008.

She worked as a Nurse in the Porter Hospital in Middlebury and the Springfield Hospital both in the Emergency Room and later as the Head Nurse of the Medical/Surgical unit. With the opening of the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center she became the Director of Nursing Services until her retirement. During her retirement she especially enjoyed becoming involved in her church. She completed the Stevens Ministry Program and for a number of years helped to organize the annual Church Bazaar. It was during this period in her life that she rekindled her love for painting and needlework. She was an avid gardener and spent many hours in her gardens in Vermont and more recently with her daughter in Virginia, where her creations live on. She is remembered fondly for her sour cream cookies, her comfortable lap, hours of reading and beautiful smile. Shirley loved her family and friends. Her happiest memories were of the wonderful times she spent with all she loved.

Surviving is her only daughter, Sherry (Bresett) Easterbrooks and her husband Russell of Stuart Virginia, her two grandsons and their companions Christopher and Jerilynn Bathgate of Greensboro NC, and Jason Bathgate and Monica Mead of Nelson, New Zealand. Shirley Bresett (Gigi) had three great-grandchildren, Gavin Bathgate, Lorien Bathgate and Mallory Cano. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews and her loving younger sister and best friend Mildred Sheehan of Meriden Connecticut. Her husband, parents, and older sister, Marion Otis, of Middlebury Vermont, predeceased her in death.
