Mrs. Shirley Sydnor Cox, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Cox was born November 15, 1928, in Surry County, to William Lee and Carma George Sydnor. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and retired after being a tap and ballroom dance instructor after many, many years. She is survived by her husband, Jack Cox of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Rodney Garrett of Durham and Lee and Hank Hardin of Spruce Spring; grandchildren, Wade Garrett, Jennifer Clark and husband, Stacey, Renee Bailey and husband, Burke, and Margaret LaFave and husband, Bradley; great-grandchildren, Madison Clark and Amy Grace LaFave; and a brother and sister-in-law, Granville and Lucy Sydnor of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by a sister, Frances "Flee" Toler. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. John Ferree officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at their home at 127 Orchard Street in Mount Airy from 6:00 until 8:00 on Tuesday evening.
