Shirley S. Edwards

Mrs. Shirley S. Edwards, 73, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Edwards was born September 9, 1936, in Surry County, to Troy Porter and Maude Sara Golding Smith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jimmy Edwards of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Marty Lovill and Tammy and Larry Green, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Cathy Johnson of Lowgap; grandchildren, Melisha Mosley, Jessica Surratt, Alex Lovill Pruitt, Brodie Lovill, Traci Ayers, and Tiffani Johnson; two great-grandchildren; two great grandchildren on the way; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy G. and Peggy Smith of Mount Airy; special friends, Jo Ann Collins and Paul Bloom; and a special caregiver, Shirley Golding. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her first husband, Otis Johnson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Carl Ray and Maurine Smith. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dale Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
