Shirley Hudson Hiatt passed away in her home Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the age of 79 after courageously battling cancer for an extended time. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Shirley dedicated her life in service to others as a teacher her entire career and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Leon G. Hiatt, her son, Grant Hiatt of New Orleans, La., and four daughters, Julia Goff of Durham, N.C., Jill Lowe and husband, Jacson, also of Durham, Susan Hiatt and husband, Sonny, of Mount Airy, and Elizabeth Hiatt and husband, Mark Wilson, of Charlotte, N.C., 11 grandchildren, and two sisters, Lois McGrady and Carol Upchurch of Sparta, N.C. Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, Reed and Tressie Hudson of Ennice, N.C., four brothers, Bill, Charles, Kenneth, and Robert Hudson, all of Sparta, N.C., and a son-in-law, Chris Goff, of Oneonta, NY. Services will be conducted by Bishop John Bradley at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 162 Temple Lane, Mount Airy, N.C., on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at the James Monroe Hiatt Memorial Cemetery in Sheltontown. The family will receive visitors at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1:00-2:00 pm on Friday, November 19.
