Shirley Franklin Key Hicks

Mrs. Shirley Franklin Key Hicks, 73, of 752 East Center Boulevard, Mooresville, and formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at the Brian Center in Mooresville. Mrs. Hicks was born November 6, 1936, in Beckley, WV, to the late William and Rose Dunford Franklin. She was retired from the Russell Corporation and was a partime waitress at Golden Corral Restaurant. Mrs. Hicks was also a member of Westside Baptist Church. Shirley went back to school in her 60's and received her GED and went on to get her CNA license where she loved to sit with people and cook for them. She also was an avid gardener with a beautiful flower garden. Shirley always greeted everyone with a smile and loved everybody. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Key Basinger and Lee of Cornelius; a sister, Billie Lloyd of Flint, MI; two brothers, Don Franklin of Flint, MI, and Johnny Franklin of Sarasota, FL; and a very special friend, Alma McMillian of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Hicks; and two sisters, Shelby J. Propst and Margaret Blue. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iredell Hospice and Palliative Care, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or to the Westside Baptist Church, 107 Spring Creek Trail, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
