Shirley Diane Simmons Hudson

Mrs. Shirley Diane Simmons Hudson, 67, of Lowgap, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Hudson was born July 28, 1954, in Norfolk, VA, one of three children born to the late George Washington Simmons, Jr. and Dorothy Ray Simmons. Shirley retired as a call coordinator from Novant Health and was a faithful member of Second Chance Church. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Donald Wayne “Don” Hudson of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sheila Kinchen of Jacksonville, FL, Donna and Jeff Scott of Mount Airy, and Amanda and Kevin Vaughn of North East, MD; a son, Delone “D.J.” Edenfield of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Hope Kinchen of Jacksonville, FL, MaKayla Leazott of New Mexico, and Kevin Vaughn, Jr. and his wife, Ashley, Kayla Edwards and her husband, Tim, and Jesseca Tilley and her husband, Adam, all of Mount Airy; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Tilley, Jeremiah Tilley, Reegan Vaughn, and Zoey Edwards; and a special nephew, Josh Rowe of Monticello, FL. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hudson was preceded in death by her twin sister, Sheila Simmons Rowe; and her brother, Tommy Simmons. The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 3:00 PM at Second Chance Church, with the Rev. Terry Coe and the Rev. Josh Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
