Shirley Ann Bowman Lawson

Mrs. Shirley Ann Bowman Lawson, 72, of 176 Slate Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, March 30, 2010, at her home. She was born September 27, 1937, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Archie Stuart and Cora Alice Slate Bowman. She was a loving mother and "special nanny." She retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and David Smith of King, Diane and Steve Joyce of Pilot Mountain, and Penny Golding and Gary Joyce of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Kayla Tate, Hannah Tate, Whitney Bledsoe, and Corbin Bedsaul; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia Stevens and Thelma and Wade Bryant, all of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Phyllis Bowman of Elizabeth, NJ. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband, James Lawson; and two brothers, Wornie Bowman and Thomas Bowman. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with Elder Jimmy Joyce officiating. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
