Mrs. Shirley Ann Tate Nance, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 6, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Nance was born March 21, 1948, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Jesse Harris and Maude Viola Edwards Tate. Shirley was a homemaker and a member of the Christian faith. She is survived by three daughters, Lisa Nance of the home, Crystal Edwards of Mount Airy, and Anita Nance of Dobson; five grandchildren, Kenneth Dwaine Edwards, Jesse Lee Edwards, Austin Tyler Nance, Billy Ryan Jackson, and Savannah Nicole Jackson; two sisters, Carol Smith and Mildred Edwards, both of Mount Airy; and three brothers and a sister-in-law, John Tate and Michael Tate, both of Mount Airy, and Jesse and Pat Tate of Lambsburg, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nance was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wayne Nance; two sisters, Mary Ruth Jenkins and Jessie Margaret Tate; and two half-brothers, Jim Tate and Lonnie Tate. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 9, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Salvation Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Anthony Smith and John Tate officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
