Mr. Silas Isaac McCraw, age 89, of Cana, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born on May 12, 1934 in Carroll County to the late James Isaac and Rosa Ann Vernon McCraw. He proudly served our country in the United States Military as U.S. Army Specialist (E-4) in Germany. He worked at Mt. Airy Mirror Company where he was a supervisor, and Gilded Mirror Company in Maryville, Tennessee, where he served in the roll of superintendent. Mr. McCraw later retired from Proctor Silex after 30 years of service and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Ann Ledford McCraw; daughters and son-in-law: Karen Saffron of Falls Church, Virginia, Michael Saffron of Falls Church, Virginia, Kim McCraw of Cana, Virgina, and Jeanette and Bobby Phillips of Mount Airy, North Carolina, and a son, Greg McCraw, of Cana, Virginia. His memory will be cherished by his three granddaughters, two grandsons, two great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCraw was preceded in death by sisters; Thelma Kane, Ora McCraw, Dora Kotila, Carrie Hawks; brothers; Garland, Troy, Arthur, and Calvin “Jake” McCraw. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Rev. Jimmy McCraw. Burial will follow in the McCraw Family Cemetery in Cana. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in M. Airy. For those that are not able to come on Saturday you may also come by the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM ~ 5:00 PM. The family would like to say a sincere thank you to his special caregivers; son, Greg McCraw, and daughter, Kim McCraw. Blue Ridge Home Health Care, Twin County Dialysis Center, and the medical staff on the V.A Clinic in Wytheville, also Mountain Valley Hospice for their excellent care of Mr. McCraw. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home (Mountain Valley Hospice) in honor of Mr. McCraw.
