Sophinie Tompkins Winesett

Mrs. Sophinie "Penny" Tompkins Winesett, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Winesett was born September 2, 1934, in Allegany County, to the late Pleasant and Grace Burnett Tompkins. She was a member of White Plains Baptist Church and retired from the church as a daycare worker. Mrs. Winesett is survived by her husband, Franklin D. Winesett, Sr. of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Donald Jessup of Walkertown and Theresa and Fred Emery of Ellijay, GA; a son, Frank D. Winesett, Jr. of Pfafftown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Winesett was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Spurlin. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bill Tucker and the Rev. Tom Delph officiating. Burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.
