Mr. Spencer Davis, 98, of 3825 Siloam Road, Dobson, passed away Saturday night, July 24, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Davis was born March 23, 1912, in Surry County, son of the late Thomas Alexander and Elsie Mae Badgett Davis. Spencer was a lifelong farmer and carpenter and a member of Level Cross United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Larry Johnson of Dobson; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Davis of Dobson; five grandchildren and their spouses, Beth and Neil Gordon of Ararat, and Travis and Amy Johnson, Dawne Johnson, Danielle Davis, and Tiffany Davis, all of Dobson; four great-grandchildren, Katherine Gordon and Samuel Gordon, both of Ararat, and Meagan Johnson and Autumn Johnson, both of Dobson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Rodella Moser Davis; and three sisters, Thelma Davis, Minnie Cassell, and Sallie Pratt. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Level Cross United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rickey Spencer and the Rev. LaNell Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Kenneth and Shirley Davis, 3811 Siloam Road, Dobson. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love, care, and compassion shown to Spencer during his illness. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
