Spencer Mack Gregory

Mr. Spencer Mack Gregory, age 73, of Stuart, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Norfolk, VA on Nov. 7, 1943 to the late Spencer M. Gregory, Sr and Lida Mae Stapleton Gregory of Charles Town, WV. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Boyd Gregory who passed away 33 days before him; and a sister, Paige Jones. He retired after 25 years of service in the U.S. Army where he spent 4 tours in Vietnam as a member of the Army Special Forces. Since his retirement, he loved traveling with his late wife, Opal. Together they visited every state in the Continental U.S. and especially loved traveling to Alaska.

Surviving in addition to his mother are three sons, Lawrence Troy Gregory of Kill Devil Hills, NC, James Lee Gregory of Savannah, GA, Morgan Longstreet of New Jersey; a step-daughter, Shona Helms and husband, Jerry of Stuart; eight grandchildren, Alexandria Elizabeth, Danielle Emily and Damian Alexander Gregory, Kevin and Dakota Longstreet, James Michael, Matthew Wynne and Rachel Mariella Gregory; three step-grandchildren, Rocky Helms and wife, Amy, Summer Pike and husband, Scott, Dawn Quesinberry and husband, Lee; one great grandchild; 12 step-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Patty Gregory of Charlotte, NC, Lynn Thomas and husband, Don of Charles Town, WV.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. An interment will be held for Spencer and Opal on their Anniversary, March 15, 2017 in the Burnette Family Cemetery.
