Mrs. Stella Mae Key Hensley, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at her home. Mrs. Hensley was born October 25, 1930, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Henry and Mary Ellen Flippen Key. Stella retired from Pine State Knitwear after many years of service and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Larry Utt, Sr. and Peggy and Billy Pack, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Larry Utt, Jr., Richard Utt, and Priscilla Renee Hawks; four great-grandchildren, Carlie Utt, Brandi Utt, Chance Utt, and Elijah Utt; an expectant great-grandchild, Isabella Grace Hawks; and a sister, Annie Key Hensley of Burlington. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hensley was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Richard Hensley (1990); a grandson, Stephen Utt; and four brothers, Charlie Key, George Key, Jesse Key, and James Key. Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a graveside celebration of Stella’s life will be held Friday, August 21, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Dean Eaton officiating. No formal visitation will be held. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by her caregivers, Tamika Puckett, Opal Edwards, and Carolyn Hornaday. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
