Stephen Elliott Poole

Mr. Stephen Elliott Poole, 58, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, April 26, 2011, after an extended illness. Mr. Poole was born August 21, 1952, in Columbia, SC, the son of David and Frances Williamson Poole. Mr. Poole was a graduate of Mount Airy High School, where he served as president of the student body and was an outstanding athlete. He went on to play football and graduated from Duke University. He attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mount Airy. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Hiatt Poole of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine and Matt Hayes of Dobson and Elizabeth Jordan Poole of the home; a grandson, Parker Matthew Hayes of Dobson; his parents, David and Frances Williamson Poole of Mount Airy; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David and Susan Poole of Shoals and Mike Poole of Greensboro; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Fay Hiatt of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 29, 2011, at 2:30 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mount Airy, with Bishop Ray Riska officiating. A private burial will be held prior to the memorial service. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1:30 PM until the hour of the service. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Poole family.
