Mr. Steve Allen Niston, 74, of Mt. Airy, passed away at Northern Regional Hospital Friday, September 10, 2021. Mr. Niston was born in Surry County November 22, 1946, to the late Robert Allen and Ora Geneva Cockerham Niston. He retired from R. J. Reynolds and was a member and deacon of Ivy Green Baptist Church. Mr. Niston proudly served our country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Booker Niston; son and daughter-in-law, Steve Allen Niston, Jr. and Sonja; daughters and son-in-law, Shelia Inman and Robert Keith, Michelle Barker; step children, Joshua Vipperman and Leann, Lora Vipperman; grandchildren and spouses, Heather Marion, Alexander Inman, Taylor Inman and Jamie, Whitney Venable and Zack, Kaitlin Barker, Hayley Inman; great grandchildren, Mason Jones, Jacob Marion, Konner Jones, Noah Jones, Adalynn Inman, Aubree Inman, Everly Venable; ten step grandchildren; sisters, Lois Vernon, Kaye Thomas; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary Niston and Jackie; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Niston was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Niston; a daughter, Brandy Niston; a sister, Mae Southern; brothers, Simon Lee Niston, John Willard Niston, and Roosevelt Niston. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Holder, and the Rev. Charlie Newman officiating, and with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Wounded Worrier Project. Org. Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
