Mr. Steven Michael “Mike” Watson, 68, of Mt. Airy, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Mike was born on September 4, 1953, in Surry County, to Rev. Billy Watson and the late June Watson. He was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. His battle with terminal cancer showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile, dignity, and grace. Despite the pain, Mike came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. His loving heart left a beacon of light for all he knew. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Charlotte Watson. Lots of fun and laughter filled their home, and sometimes an occasional argument. Two children resulted from their love, Derek Watson and wife Stephanie with their two children, Sydney and Christian, and Melissa Leonard and husband Travis with their three children, Aiden, Gavin, and Eli. Mike also had four siblings, Cathy Wall and husband Rev. Barry, Gaynell Christenberry and husband Toby, Greg Watson and wife Denise and Tanya Johnson and husband Rev. Randy. A precious aunt, Carolyn McBride, played a very important role in his life, as well as special cousin Jodi Brinkley. Mike had several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many wonderful neighbors that helped in trying times.. He had lots of golf buddies, but especially Kenneth and Marty; and faithful friend, his dog Bella. He retired from North Carolina Foam, Inc. after 50 years of service. Mike decided to be joyful about having had a full life rather than sad about dying. His relationship with God helped him to accept what he could not change. Mike spent his last days praising the Lord for his mercy, love, and grace. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. The birth and death of this great man, however, is not nearly as relevant as all the day and nights that he lived to the fullest between 1953-2021. The family will be receiving friends Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Little Mountain Baptist Church from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, and at other times at the home of his father, Rev. Bill Watson. The service will be at the church, Sunday, October 31, 2021, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Barry Wall and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
