Susan Hicks

Mrs. Susan McHone Hicks, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  She was born October 6, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Jessie and Lela Marsh McHone.  Mrs. Hicks retired from Cross Creek Apparel after many years of service.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and son-in-law, Linda Fletcher and Pamela Joy and Dale Slate; her son, Eddie G. Fletcher; her grandchildren, Carolyn Sue Dobbins, Johnny Ray Bowman, Lisa Ann Miller, Jamie Gray Bowman, Janice Bowman, Penny Haynes, and Amanda Slate; her great-grandchildren, Megan Stevens, Cory Simmons, Hannah Simmons, Caleb Miller, Brinley Miller, Mason Stevens, and Ayla Stevens; her sisters, Opal Hawks and Polly Johnson; and her brother, Bobby McHone.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Oscar Hicks; a sister, Alene Johnson; and three brothers, Jack McHone, Billy McHone, and Buddy McHone.  The funeral service will be held Monday, January 25, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The visitation prior to the service will be for family only.  The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care given to their mother during her stay there.
