Susan Badgett Sykes

Mrs. Susan Badgett Sykes, 60, of 331 Sykes Dairy Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Sykes was born October 3, 1947, in Surry County, to Pauline Parker Badgett and the late Kenneth Rex Badgett. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 41 years, David Mitchell Sykes of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Joey Slate of Mount Airy; a son, Josh Sykes and partner, Angela Denio, of Asheville' and she was "Grammy" to two grandchildren, Barrett Slate and Natalie Slate, both of Mount Airy; her mother, Pauline Parker Badgett of Mount Airy; three sisters and two brothers-in-law; Rebecca and Gary Blake of Biscoe, Paula Milton of Clemmons, and Cindy and Ramey McBride of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Mrs. Sykes was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, David Milton.
She was a 1965 graduate of North Surry High School, selected to attend Governor's School at Salem College, and furthered her education at UNC Greensboro. Susan enjoyed traveling with family. She and her husband, David, and son, Josh, took a special trip across the United States. She enjoyed weekend trips with her sisters. Most Sunday afternoons were spent visiting with her mother. She was a devoted employee of Northern Hospital of Surry County, where she was a Benefits Compensation Analyst. She recently obtained her certification as a Certified Compensation Professional.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Wayne Hager and the Rev. Jimmy Slate. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
